Vermont Railroad Track Realignment

Project Scope
WJFE, in collaboration with Geosciences Testing and Research, Inc. (GTR), was contacted to provide support of excavation systems allowing the contractor to install the new track alignment and bridge improvements. Due to the grade changes and existing buildings adjacent to the work zone, various systems were used including drilled-in soldier piles, driven sheeting, soil nail walls, and wall underpinning.

New Rochelle Sanitary Sewer Replacements

Project Scope
Kings Capital Construction required that WJFE provide a temporary support of excavation design to facilitate the removal of the existing and installation of 1,800ft of new sewer line. A vertical timber sheeting design with three level of bracing was provided, allowing the contractor the flexibility to excavate up to their maximum depth of 13ft and width of 7ft, while crossing numerous utilities.

NYSDOT Van Wyck Widening

Project Scope
WJFE was contacted to provide a support of excavation system to support mainline traffic during the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the Pier 15 foundation along the Van Wyck Expressway. Due to height restrictions, a soldier pile and lagging system was used which required designing splice connections.

MTA LIRR Johnson Yards

Project Scope
WJFE provided engineer services to aid in the design of a permanent precast Double-Wal retaining wall and redesign a temporary soldier pile, lagging, and raker support of excavation. Due to an existing duct bank, installing the standard 8ft depth of precast module was not possible. WJFE worked with the precast engineer to strengthen the 4ft and 6ft deep modules to provide the required overturning and sliding stability. The solution was to drive permanent soldier piles inside of the individual units, place threaded rod through the soldier piles and the module side walls and fill the module with concrete to tie them all together. Additionally, WJFE redesigned the SOE system for a steeper angle of raker to maintain an access road and spacing of the soldier piles to aid in the precast installation.
